Things to do in Pawleys Island

Posted by Gina McSorley on

Pawleys Island, SC is known as one of the oldest summer beach resorts in the nation; however, this picturesque city has much more to offer than just its beautiful beaches. With it’s numerous locally owned businesses and restaurants, Pawleys is certain to give you and your family a one-of-a-kind vacation experience. Since there are so many things to see in this area, I’ve decided to create a list of my favorite things to do in Pawleys Island!

For the Outdoor Adventurers

1. Bike from Litchfield to Murrells Inlet

One of my favorite things to do before hitting the beach is to go on a nice bike ride. Pawleys Island offers numerous secluded trails, but the one I take the most goes from Litchfield all the way to Murrells Inlet. The trail is 6 miles one way and is flat and easy for all ages. If you do not have a bike with you, I would recommend renting from Cyclopedia in Litchfield! They are right across from the start of the trail and have very affordable prices.

2. Check out Surf the Earth

Whether you want to rent equipment for an outing, book one of their scheduled excursions, or take a surf lesson, these guys have got you covered. Located off Ocean Highway, this store is your one stop shop for all things outdoors. Follow one of their guides on a trip or go on your own; either way, you will be sure to enjoy your adventure with Surf the Earth!

For the Foodies

1. Southern Comforts Restaurant and Bakery

The name says it all: this top choice includes every southern comfort food imaginable! From their numerous fresh seafood dishes to homemade fried chicken, Southern Comforts is the kind of place you have to eat at when visiting the south. It’s unpretentious and delicious food and quality service make this one of my favorite restaurants in Pawleys Island, so be sure to stop in and experience the best of the South!

2. Pawleys Island Tavern

If its entertainment and a meal you are looking for, be sure to stop into the PIT! Every weekend from Thursday to Saturday, different live bands come and perform at this popular eatery. It is located directly across from the Pawleys Island Hammock Shops and, despite its secluded location, attracts many people across the Grand Strand. Also, their pimento cheese and crab cake sandwiches are sure to impress!

For the Dessert Enthusiasts

1. Anything Froz

Is there anything better than post beach ice cream? I don’t think so! Anything Froz is located across from Eagles Surf Shop and is right by Litchfield Beach, making it a sure stop after a hot summer day. This place is one of my favorites because not only do they have a wide range of frozen yogurts, but also make delicious smoothies and coffee! No matter what you’re craving, Anything Froz should be your destination.

2. Gilbert’s Ice Cream

Opening this past April, Gilbert’s is the newest ice cream shop on the block and certainly does not disappoint. It features delicious traditional flavors, such as coffee and cookie dough, but it also has unique ones, like Sweet Tea sorbet! While the ice cream itself is reason enough to stop by, Gilbert’s also has COLORFUL ice cream cones that are both enjoyable to look at and to eat. Honestly, it may have been the best cone I’ve ever eaten. If you find yourself driving down Highway 17, be sure to grab a cone!

I hope this helps you plan your next trip to Pawleys Island and you enjoy all of the local experiences this island has to offer!
