Top 5 Nail Polish Colors for the Summer

Posted by Wynne Treco on

While I’m working at L. Mae Boutique this summer, I want to make sure my nails are on point. There are so many great nail polish colors to choose from this summer, so it can be hard to narrow down your search for the perfect shade. Here’s my list of the top 5 nail polish colors and shades I love to wear in the summer!

1.) Essie Nail Polish - Bikini So Teeny

Not only does the shade name embody the feeling of summer, but the shimmery light blue color makes my nails pop, especially after an all-dayer at the beach! The color compliments my summer wardrobe, and the polish is so quick and easy to apply - so it's useful if you’re in a rush!

2.) Sinful Colors - Out in Space

I love wearing neons in the summer, especially on my toes! My go-to neon shade is “Out in Space” from Sinful Colors. Whenever I'm on a tight budget, I turn to Sinful Colors. The one secret behind wearing neon nail polish is to always start with a white base coat, and then apply the neon shade. Neons tend to have very sheer formulas, and do not pop as much without the white base coat. I usually put this shade over the white base, but sometimes I experiment with other colors to see how the highlighter yellow coat changes them!

3.) Julie G - Gelato in Venice

This color reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream! In the summer, I tend to gravitate towards mint green, especially this polish. This color is so pretty, and the formula is really great! It’s basically a one-coater (it’s that pigmented), but I always add a light second coat just to be safe. I love this shade because it’s so easy and wearable, and it matches my favorite swim suit.

4.) Essie - Ballet Slippers

This color is perfect for french manicures. It’s a sheer, light pink that looks super glossy on the nail. I love this color because it’s really easy to wear, and is a classic Essie shade. Fun fact: Ballet Slippers was one of the four shades Essie Weingarten, the founder of Essie Cosmetics, trademarked so nobody else could take the name.

5.) Wet n Wild - Red Red

The name says it all. Who doesn’t love the classic red nail look? I usually only wear red in the summer because it’s such a bright and bold look. Wet n Wild’s formula for “Red Red” is really high quality for the price ($1!): the polish is pigmented, easy to control, and dries quickly. No complaints here.
